Homes of Kashmir Attack Suspects Demolished After Deadly Assault

Srinagar, Kashmir — April 26, 2025

Security forces in Kashmir demolished the homes of several individuals suspected of involvement in the region’s deadliest civilian attack in decades, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The operation comes days after an assault that left at least 19 civilians dead and dozens injured in the southern districts of the disputed territory. Authorities have described the attack as a “coordinated act of terror” aimed at destabilizing the already fragile security situation.

Military bulldozers moved into several neighborhoods early this morning, flattening houses believed to belong to the alleged attackers.
“These demolitions send a strong message that terrorism and those who harbor it will not be tolerated,” said a senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation.

The move has sparked a new wave of tension in the region, which has long been a flashpoint between India and Pakistan. Human rights groups have quickly condemned the demolitions, arguing that such actions punish entire families and risk further alienating local communities.

“Collective punishment is a violation of international law,” said a spokesperson for the South Asia Human Rights Forum. “Authorities must ensure accountability measures adhere to due process.”

No militant group has formally claimed responsibility for the recent attack. However, intelligence officials suggest the assault was meticulously planned, exploiting gaps in local security infrastructure.

Kashmir, claimed in full but ruled in part by both India and Pakistan, has witnessed sporadic violence over the decades. However, the scale and brutality of this latest attack have shocked even the most hardened observers.

As security forces continue their hunt for other suspects, tensions across the region remain high.
Authorities have reinforced curfews, increased patrols, and suspended internet services in several districts to prevent further unrest.
